Iron lies at the heart of the work: its origins\, its journey through time and its connection to the stars. Can we trace the history of a metal across billions of years\, from its formation in the universe to the depths of the Earth? How can the same element be essential to the human body yet potentially toxic? \nThe performance also explores the long history of mining in the Cyclades\, focusing on Sifnos and Serifos. Mining on Sifnos dates back to the third millennium BC\, and the island’s mineral wealth played a central role in its economic and cultural development. The remains of ancient mines\, still visible today\, bear witness to the enduring relationship between the land\, human labour and collective memory. On Serifos\, the miners’ strike of 1916 became a defining moment in the island’s history and a landmark in the history of the Greek labour movement. \nThe title *SIDAAROS recalls the archaic and dialectal form sidāros\, meaning iron. A passionate love affair blossoms between them\, one that will be tested by political circumstances\, their personal choices\, and their constant travels between Eastern and Western Europe. Over the course of fifteen years\, from Stalinist Poland to the Paris of jazz and artistic freedom\, the two protagonists part ways and reunite\, trapped in a relationship marked by passion\, jealousy\, and mutual dependence. They can’t live together\, but it turns out to be just as impossible for them to live without each other. Inspired by his parents’ turbulent history\, the director crafts a simple\, black-and-white\, and deeply melancholic love story\, set against the backdrop of the Cold War and a Europe divided between East and West. In 2018\, the film won the Best Director Award at the 71st Cannes Film Festival and received five European Film Academy Awards that same year. DESCRIPTION:The festival\, in collaboration with the Archipelagos Network and the Municipality of Sifnos\, presents an evening dedicated to the rich heritage of Sifnian pottery. This initiative is part of Sifnos’ participation in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and highlights the island’s contemporary pottery communities. Ceramics is viewed as an art form inextricably linked to the history\, daily life\, and identity of Sifnos\, but also as a vibrant field of contemporary creativity. Through discussion and film\, the people\, knowledge\, and techniques that keep the island’s pottery tradition alive and help it evolve are presented. \nThe evening begins with a discussion on the presence and significance of pottery in Sifnos\, from antiquity to the present day. Representatives from the fields of archaeology\, architectural history\, and local government approach the topic from different perspectives\, examining the evolution of Sifnian pottery and its role in shaping the island’s cultural landscape. The discussion will be moderated by Jacob Moe\, director of the Archipelagos Network. Participants include George Gavalas\, archaeologist and curator for Sifnos and Serifos at the Cyclades Ephorate of Antiquities; Ioanna Theocharopoulou\, architectural historian; and Maria Nadali\, mayor of Sifnos. \nThe second part of the event features seven short documentaries directed by Jacob Moe\, which were created as part of the Archipelagos Network’s research on Sifnian pottery. The films take us to the workshops of Nikos and Yannis Lembesis\, Antonis and Yannis Atsoniou\, and Antonis K. Kalogirou\, Georgios Atsoniou\, Kostas Depastas\, Fratzeskos Lemonis\, and Giannis Podotas. Through in-depth interviews\, observational footage\, and archival photographs\, the films document the knowledge\, techniques\, and stories passed down from generation to generation\, highlighting a DESCRIPTION:The documentary *La Quinta Stagione*\, directed by Giuseppe Carrieri and produced by Paola Valeria Jovinelli\, co-founder of the festival\, presents five stories of women who have left their mark on contemporary Italian gastronomy. The film follows five distinguished Italian chefs—Caterina Ceraudo\, Martina Caruso\, Valeria Piccini\, Antonia Klugmann\, and Cristina Bowerman—on a cinematic journey through nature\, time\, and the places that have shaped their culinary identities. Filming took place in sync with the cycle of the seasons\, the equinoxes\, and the solstices: spring in Calabria with Caterina Ceraudo\, summer on Salina with Martina Caruso\, fall in Tuscany with Valeria Piccini\, winter on the border of Friuli with Antonia Klugmann\, and\, finally\, Cristina Bowerman’s “Rome of the Four Seasons +1.” \nFar from the television stereotypes surrounding haute cuisine\, La Quinta Stagione adopts a quiet and authentic cinematic perspective. The connection to place lies at the heart of the narrative\, as the kitchen emerges as a space for personal expression and freedom. The result is a poetic journey through Italy that highlights creativity\, diversity\, and the presence of women in contemporary gastronomy. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the audience\, featuring director Giuseppe Carrieri and Michelin-starred chef Cristina Bowerman.
